Thanksgiving Reading Bingo

Trying to prevent school break forgetfulness? If you are a teacher, you know what I mean! Children come back from holiday breaks and it's like all the knowledge you had been working on has fallen out of their beautiful little heads. There are a few ways to combat this, and in preschool, it can be extremely fun to add a Thanksgiving bingo incentive to their break as a way to enforce literacy comprehension and encourage learning during school breaks. Every teacher knows that during holiday breaks, kids are going to lose a bit of what you've been teaching. The great news is that it's OKAY! For preschoolers, they need to learn through play, family, and love. So any slide in academic progress is normal and maybe even encouraged. Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten academic accomplishment is only extracurricular in comparison to their emotional, social, and physical development.

Last year I discovered Reading BINGOs that were designed for children to do doing school breaks. The concept is fantastic. It helps continue the reading foundation in a fun and silly way throughout school breaks. It's a great way to foster a love of learning. I have yet to meet a preschool student that doesn't think reading in a tub without water is not uproariously hilarious.  I was sad to see most of them were for elementary or middle school students. So I set out to create one that would cater to our needs as Pre-K teachers.

The concept of this thanksgiving bingo is simple enough. Send the sheet home with your students and have them complete either a bingo line or a blackout! There are some pretty silly options for preschoolers, so I usually send an email home to parents explaining the game and explaining that the activity is completely optional.
